Fixed Income Strategy

Strategy Description
Seeks steady income, predictable returns, and protection against loss of principal.

Investment Approach and Process
Investments include tax-free or taxable bonds depending on the tax status of the account and the client’s marginal tax rate.

  • Tax Status
Given the high marginal tax rate of many clients, tax-free municipal bonds are often employed. After-tax returns for clients in high tax brackets are often higher than the taxable alternative.

Characteristics

High Quality
Fixed Income investing offers a pre-determined return and the expectation of receiving back invested principal at maturity. Initial and ongoing due diligence is employed to monitor issue credit quality and the broader sector trends that could influence credit ratings. Municipal bonds have much lower historic default rates than corporate bonds.

Low Volatility
The Fixed Income component of the portfolio can act as a cushion against the less predictable equity markets.

Cost Effective Trade Execution
Marquette Asset Management is not a brokerage firm and thus, never sells our clients bonds from inventory with mark-ups. Our fixed income professionals buy bonds from a variety of broker-dealers in the open market and the price paid for the bond in the open market is the price that you receive in your portfolio.
