A dedicated client relationship manager will be directly responsible for coordinating the work of Marquette's chief economist, trust and investment officers, asset managers, and financial analysts on your account.

We serve the financial asset management needs of a individuals, families, and trusts in a wide variety of locations, including Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Arizona.

Biographies

John Beuerlein
John Beuerlein is Chairman and the Chief Investment Officer of Marquette Asset Management. He manages the firm's investment research activities and chairs the Investment Committee. He also serves as the Chief Economist of Marquette Financial Companies, Inc. ("MFC"). Prior to forming Marquette Asset Management, John was the President of Apocalypse Corporation, a wholly-owned registered investment advisor subsidiary of MFC that managed assets of institutional clients. John joined Marquette Financial Companies in 2000 when Apocalypse Corporation was purchased by MFC.

John worked for Apocalypse since 1983 as Portfolio Manager, Investment Strategist, Vice President and President. During his time at Apocalypse, John developed and implemented equity and fixed-income strategies for a diverse group of clients including wealthy individuals, philanthropic foundations, religious communities, banks, and retirement plans of Fortune 500 companies. An intense study of the Federal Reserve and its monetary policy development is the underlying basis for most of these investment strategies. John entered the field of investment management in 1979 when he joined Alabama Investment Managers (AIM), a privately held investment management firm. At AIM, John was General Manager responsible for all business and investment decisions.

John earned a M.S. degree from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California and a B.S. degree with highest honors from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. He is on the investment advisory boards for the Dixon Group and The Dixon Foundation of Birmingham, Alabama. John is a member of the investment committee of the Jeremiah Program, a member of the finance committee of St. Patrick's Church in Edina, Minnesota, and in the past has been a board member of the Cystic Fibrosis Society of Minnesota and Juvenile Diabetes Foundation.

John M. Pohlad
John is a Managing Director of Marquette Asset Management. He is responsible for growing and managing client relationships and assisting clients with investment strategies. Prior to founding Marquette Asset Management, John was a Vice President and the Regional Manager for Bel Air Investment Advisors LLC. Previously, John was a Director of Sahara Investment Company, his family’s business office in Minneapolis. At Sahara, John managed his family’s investment portfolios and other private investments. John started his career with Norwest Bank Minnesota, NA (now Wells Fargo & Company) as an International Banking Representative in the Latin American Division in Minneapolis and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

John serves as a Trustee of Twin Cities Public Television, The Jay Phillips Center for Jewish-Christian Learning, and Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. John received his B.A. in Business Administration and Spanish from St. John's University and received his Masters of International Management (M.I.M.) from Thunderbird, the American Graduate School of International Management.

Bob J. Rubenstein, J.D.
Bob is a Managing Director of Marquette Asset Management and President and Senior Trust Officer of Marquette Trust. He is responsible for managing the financial activities of clients and their families, including trust, private foundation, estate, retirement and agency account administration, coordination of income and estate tax planning, advisory services, and customized planning and analysis. Bob has over twenty years of experience in the field and is widely respected for his fiduciary administration and client relationship skills. Bob came to Marquette Asset Management from U.S. Trust Company, where he served as a Senior Vice President, Senior Trust Officer for the Minnesota Region and as a member of U.S. Trust's National Fiduciary Policy Committee. His early career included personal trust administration and trust marketing positions with large bank trust departments and brokerage affiliated trust companies. Bob has a B.A. (1977) in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and a J.D. (1980) from the University of Minnesota Law School. He serves as Chairman of the Marquette Financial Companies Midwest Regional Charitable Giving Committee and sits on the endowment investment committees of the St. Paul United Jewish Fund and Council and the Institute for Agriculture and Trade Policy.

Kevin T. Brown
Kevin is a Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer of Marquette Asset Management. He is responsible for providing the leadership and management necessary to ensure the advancement of the operations of MAM. He works closely with the President and the senior management team providing advice and counsel with respect to planning the scope and strategic direction of the firm. His duties include the development and presentation of future plans and objectives for ad hoc issues and business initiatives covering a broad range of areas such as strategy and direction, financial matters, lift-outs/acquisitions, organizational structures, & competitive analysis.

Kevin came to Marquette from State Street Corporation, where he had served in a number of capacities since 1994. These included Chief Financial Officer and Director of Marketing for SSgA's Private Asset Management business. He also supported SSgA's merger & acquisition activities and worked in Financial Management Reporting and Strategic Analysis. He had most recently been Co-Chief Operating Officer of State Street's Bel Air Investment Advisors subsidiary in Los Angeles. His early career included work at The Boston Company as Chief Financial Officer of their high net worth asset management & trust business as well as experience in the brokerage and public accounting industries. Kevin has a B.A. from Providence College, an M.B.A. from Boston College, and obtained a C.P.A. in New York State. Kevin currently serves as Vice Chairman on the Board of Directors and on the Finance Committee of Neighborhood Involvement Program, an organization devoted to strengthening individuals and the community by providing health care, education and social services to underserved neighbors.

Adam K. Mans, CFA
Adam is a Managing Director at Marquette Asset Management and a member of the Investment Committee. He is responsible for investment research, portfolio strategy, and relationship management. Previously, Adam was with Woodbury Financial Services, Inc., where he managed the Wealth Management Group. Additionally, he has several years of investment experience with Securian Financial Services and Piper Jaffray.

Adam has a Bachelor of Science degree with majors in Mathematics and Astronomy from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He also has a Master of Business Administration degree with a finance concentration from the Carlson School of Management, University of Minnesota.

Adam is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Minnesota. He currently serves Minnesota State University, Mankato Foundation as a member of its Board of Directors and as Chairman of its Investment Committee. Adam is on the Board of Directors of YMCA Camp du Nord and the University of Minnesota Arboretum Foundation - Audit/Finance Committee.

James S. Rovner, CFA
Jim is a Senior Vice President and Senior Investment Officer of Marquette Asset Management and a member of the Investment Committee. He is responsible for equity research and growth portfolio strategy at the firm. Jim came to Marquette Asset Management from Labyrinth Group, where he served as Chief Investment Officer.

Jim began his career at US Bancorp, where he spent 20 years as an analyst and equity portfolio manager. At US Bancorp, he was also responsible for that institution’s index products and derivative strategies and sat on the Asset Allocation Committee. His clients ranged from individuals to major foundations and endowments. Jim served as the portfolio manager of the bank’s First American Mid-Cap Value Fund, which grew from $250 million to $800 million under his leadership.

Jim earned a BBA in finance and investments from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and also participated in the Applied Security Analysis Program. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and a member of the CFA Institute and the CFA Society of Minnesota. Jim formerly served on the Investment Advisory Board overseeing the Aristotle Fund at the University of St. Thomas and he currently serves on the Temple Israel Investment Committee.

Jean K. Gullikson, CPA
Jean is a Senior Vice President and Chief Compliance Officer of Marquette Asset Management and a Vice President and Trust Officer of Marquette Trust. She oversees the development and implementation of policies and procedures designed to ensure that Marquette Asset Management and Marquette Trust meet their fiduciary obligations. She is also responsible for managing the financial activities of clients and their families, including trust, private foundation, estate, retirement and agency account administration, coordination of income and estate tax planning, advisory services, and customized planning and analysis. Jean is known for her high level of client service and attention to detail within complex family relationships.
Prior to joining Marquette Asset Management, Jean was a Financial Manager at Lowry Hill, a comprehensive wealth management firm, where she worked closely with multi-generational affluent families and their advisors. Previously, Jean was Tax Manager at Piper Trust Company where she was responsible for fiduciary tax preparation, compliance, estate administration, and for development of operational policies and procedures. She entered the financial planning and trust tax field when she joined the Tax Practice at KPMG-Minneapolis in 1992.

Jean earned a B.B.A. degree in Accounting with highest honors from the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire. She is a Certified Public Accountant, having earned the Elijah Watt Sells Award for scoring in the top 100 of exam takers nationally. Jean is a member of the Minnesota Society of Certified Public Accountants and the National Society of Compliance Professionals.

Glen O. Mason
Glen is Senior Vice President of Business Development for Marquette Asset Management. He is responsible for developing and managing client relationships. Prior to coming to Marquette Asset Management, Glen was a collegiate football coach for 35 years. Glen most recently was Head Coach for the Minnesota Gophers football team from 1997-2006. He previously coached at Allegheny College, Ball State, Iowa State, the University of Illinois, Ohio State and was the Head Football Coach at Kent State from 1986-1987 and the University of Kansas from 1988-1996. Glen has also served as the President of the American Football Coaches Association and has been active in the community through the Children’s Cancer Research Center and Catholic Charities. Glen is a graduate of Ohio State University and holds a MA from Ball State.

Christopher M. Vernier
Chris is a Senior Vice President at Marquette Asset Management, and serves as portfolio manager for the fixed income and internally managed equity products. He is responsible for all aspects of trading at the firm. Chris is also a member of the Investment and Compliance Committees. Prior to joining Marquette, Chris held the position of Operations Manager of Knelman Asset Management Group LLC, where he was directly responsible for trading, performance reporting, account maintenance, technology, and systems. Previously Chris held a trading position at Eagle Capital Management where he was responsible for obtaining financing for a multibillion-dollar global bond portfolio and played an integral role in the implementation of an operations-based trading and accounting software system.

Chris received his B.A. from the University of St. Thomas, majoring in both Finance and Accounting and passed the Certified Public Accountant exam. He is a member of the Minnesota Securities Dealers Association.

Valerie A. Thomas
Valerie is a Vice President and Senior Client Service Administrator of Marquette Asset Management and Trust Officer of Marquette Trust. She is responsible for managing the financial activities of clients and their families, including trust, private foundation, estate, retirement and agency account administration, coordination of income and estate tax planning, advisory services, and customized planning and analysis. Valerie brings over 12 years of wealth management experience to our business. Prior to joining Marquette Asset Management, Valerie was a Financial Associate at Lowry Hill, providing high-level service to affluent families and individuals, including trust and estate administration.

Valerie earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration with highest honors from Northwestern College (St. Paul, MN). She is also is a Trust School graduate of Cannon Financial Institute (Athens, GA) and holds the Certified Trust & Financial Advisor (CTFA).

Jason Nelson
Jason is a Financial Analyst at Marquette Asset Management. He is responsible for asset allocation and portfolio analysis. Previously, Jason was with The Clifton Group, where he was an Investment Analyst.

Jason has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Economics from Minnesota State University, Mankato. He also is currently a Level II candidate in the CFA program.


Jessica Alleyne
Jessica is an Assistant Vice President and Client Service Associate of Marquette Asset Management. She is responsible for the account opening process, cash processing, and related operational activities for our clients’ accounts. Previously, Jessica was an Account Administrator for Boys, Arnold & Company, a wealth management firm in North Carolina.

Jessica earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Alexis Cress, CTFA
Alexis is an Assistant Vice President and Client Service Associate of Marquette Asset Management. She is responsible for reconciliation, account opening, and related operational activities for our clients’ accounts. Prior to coming to Marquette Asset Management, Alexis was a Consulting Associate at Fieldstone Alliance, where she helped nonprofit organizations with their financial structure and revenue streams. Her previous experience includes working as an Assistant Family Controller at Waycrosse, Inc. and as a Financial Associate at Lowry Hill.

Alexis earned a B.A. degree from Augsburg College majoring in Business Administration. She recently earned her MBA from the University of St. Thomas. She also is a Trust School graduate of Cannon Financial Institute, and holds the Certified Trust & Financial Advisor (CTFA) designation. Alexis also serves as Co-Director of Community Relations for the National Association of Women MBAs (NAWMBA) – Minneapolis Professional Chapter, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women MBAs in order to propel more women into leadership positions in corporate America and to enhance the diversity of the nation's workforce.

Maria K. Zakariasen
Maria is the Office Manager and Administrative Assistant of Marquette Asset Management.  She is responsible for the overall function of the office and manages its day-to-day administrative needs.  Previously, Maria was an HR Generalist at Accenture and Office Manager at Calhoun Beach Club.
